Mar 3, 2007 - Bronzewood Paedeia Covenant Presbyterian Church - Palo Alto BRONZE AND WOOD IN SWEET RESONANCE  Bronze and wood come together in a concert featuring the sweet resonance of harp and handbells. Harpist Kevin Holsinger and handbell solo artist Michèle Sharik surprise and delight audiences with their beautiful music and charming story-telling.  In a performance on Saturday, March 3, 2007 at 7:00 PM at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 670 East Meadow Drive in Palo Alto, they will be joined by guest artist Gretchen Rauch on vibraphone to present an eclectic program of ancient and modern music, from Renaissance dances to modern jazz, and all things in between. This diversity of style gives the concert a universal appeal. Tickets: $15 adults; $10 students & seniors; $30 family maximum. Audience members are encouraged to bring canned or dry goods to be donated to the South  Palo Alto Food Closet, a grocery program designed to help families with children by assisting them in their weekly food needs. The SPAFC especially needs items such as peanut butter, canned tuna, macaroni and cheese, tomato sauce, and especially any and all kinds of soup. (No baby food, please.) An Essay for Bells Angels

I wondered if it would be possiBELL to write a short essay on bell choirs and ringers using BELL words without becoming BELLicose, reBELLious or BELLigerent? Of course we have to take care not to BELLow our words orBELLyache too much about things. We want to be noBELL in our approach, flexiBELL, and certainly not seem to bumBELL about or go BELListic.

Our scores have to be chartaBELL so we can read them, and we must be accountaBELL to our director and reliaBELL in attendance. And nobody in a bell choir can be the BELLe of the ball; rather we must fight the irresistiBELL urge to star and instead be humBELL enough to become part of the ensemBELL. This is certainly not an insurmountaBELL problem!

Please disBELL the notion that it’s easy to play the bells. Even though the bells only have one movaBELL part, the clapper, one must be aBELL to count, read notes and learn multiBELL techniques. One learns the value of the human opposaBELL thumb for grasping and damping, as well as many variaBELL skills in ringing. We get to play music by a variety of composers, such as PachelBELL. We don’t play in a BELLcony or BELLfry; that’s anteBELLum, and we BELLieve that bell music BELLongs in the concert hall or church.

So, ringers, be affaBELL, amiaBELL and approachaBELL—occasionally even sociaBELL. As we amBELL through our scores, relax and take a palpaBELL satisfaction in your skills!
